Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with reasons for borrowing anglicisms in the German language of tourism. The controversial issue of the status of the language of tourism as a language for special purposes is discussed and the term anglicism is determined. The reasons for borrowing anglicisms were investigated within the three subcorpora – the subcorpus of brochures, journals and professional and scientific publications. The most common reasons for borrowing – closing lexical gaps, language economy, differentiation in meaning, local setting, pedagogical aspect (professional and linguistic competence) and globalization of the language with respect to the typical text types and communication partners – senders and recipients were analyzed.
