Summary/Abstract: The paper is based on a report that presents the analysis of skiing and snowboarding accidents in one of the most popular ski resorts in the Podhale region. The authors have taken an epidemiologic perspective in the study of such accidents and have applied the case study method as an effective research tool that allows to diagnose the characteristic features of the processes that occur in a given place and within a specific time frame – in this case, skiing and snowboarding accidents. Indeed, systematic studies of the accident rates allow one to identify the development trends and to forecast future conditions, and this, in turn, facilitates effective prevention and contributes to the growth of the ski rescue service. The statistical and demographic data used in this paper have been retrieved from the documentation of the Tatra Mountains Rescue Service (TOPR) teams that were on duty in the 2017/2018 winter season.
