Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to identify the relationships between the concepts of personalism and objectivism in XIXth and XXth Century Russian Literature and Philosopy. In the late XIXth and early XXth centuries Russian thought embraced personalism as a coherent set of new philosophical ideas. The basic idea of personalism is the concept of “substantial “self” as a determining element of being of any substance. Berdyaev would claim later that personality is the very essence of individuality in its existence, the determining centerpiece of individual existence. Russian philosophy laid a foundation for the criticism of rationalism, objectification, and „essentialism“. But the claim that Russian philosophy is personalist, and German philosophy is objectivist is a myth. The author's task, then, is to to show why this popular philosophical myth is wrong.
