Summary/Abstract: The article considers the negative factors that prevent Russia from rising to a higher level of economic development and entering the top five countries. The comparison of countries on economic and social indicators, such as gross domestic product and its average annual growth, the dynamics of the contribution of various industries to GDP, the indicator of information and communication technologies and innovation component of development, as well as social attitudes of society regarding the economic policy. In addition to these figures, there are the competitiveness rating of countries developed by the German scientist, doctor of economic Sciences, founder and President of the world economic forum by Schwab Klaus Martin.
