Summary/Abstract: Following the recurrence of serious events of food contamination across the globe, food safety has become a matter of ever increasing international concern for the global community and for international organizations such as World Trade Organization that decided to include health protection among its concerns. Health protection from foodborne hazards represented a subject of interest for other international organizations, such as World Health Organization that has defined foodborne diseases as a global public health challenge. Protecting global health from foodborne hazards is a compelling duty and a primary interest of both States and non-State actors; it calls for enhanced proactive cooperation between national and international institutions. Therefore we emphasize the necessity of harmonizing and enforcing the international standards in food safety in the national legislations.
