Summary/Abstract: The paper provides a summary of the initial phase of constructing the concept, using the theory of capital of Pierre Bourdieu to the analysis of the activities of enterprises. The core of this concept is the division of the resources in companies into four basic types corresponding to P. Bourdieu’s capital classification (division into economic capital, social capital, cultural capital and symbolic capital) and the assumption, according to which any entity embedded in market conditions needs to consciously manage the conversions of resources (from one type to another). The study was carried out in the group of 43 companies operating in the ICT sector in the Pomorskie Voivodeship. This study was a preliminary attempt to identify the preferences of both top management and regular employees of the analyzed companies regarding those types of capitals, which in the daily functioning of these companies play a central role (or would play such a role, if the company had enough resources). The topic of the paper is important, taking into account incompatibility often occurring in the preferences regarding various forms capitals among staff of the same company, that – in accordance with the presented theoretical concept – can lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of actions taken within the company.
