THE BUCHAREST FROM YESTERDAY– JOURNAL FROM A FORGOTTEN WORLD

Summary/Abstract: The essay proposes a journey into the center of Bucharest,regarding a historic area, known for its architectural values. The journey starts from the Place of Time andit ends at Mântuleasa Park.The main objective is to present to the public the valuesof Bucharest`s heritage that are on the way of being irreplaceable,making a point on regenerating this spacethrough programs of restoration, conservation, rehabilitation,improvement.The journey will take the form of a guided tour wherethe way of developing Calea Moșilor Street and Mântuleasaslum will be presented, but without focusing on adiachronic manner. It will be more important to illustratethe historical monument buildings on this route,namely the merchant houses and the inns, which are infact presenting themselves as some specific architecturalprograms for this area. Pointing out this monumentsis important as they are making part of Bucharest`sheritage. By respecting the identity of a place, assumingand improving its cultural and architectural values, weare making a step in respecting the past. And by respectingthe past, we respect ourselves today.
