Summary/Abstract: The Muslims maintained their political existence in Andalusia from the early 8th century until 897/1492. After the fall of the Andalusian Umayyad State in 422/1031, the first state of the Muslims in the Iberian Peninsula, many city states were established. In the late 5th/11th century these small city-states called Muluk al-Tawaif (Party-Kings) were faced with the danger of fall in the face of Christian forces. They turned for assistance to the Murabites in Maghreb who were of Berber origin. Thanks to the assitance supplied by the Maghreb, the rule of the Murabites began in Andalusia in 483/1090, followed by the Almohads’ rule after 541/1147. Following the fall of the state of Almohads in the early 7th/13th, another period of Muluk al-Tawaif (Party-Kings) arose and within a short time, the states collapsed except for Bani Ahmar (Nasrids or Granada Sultanate). This state managed to survive for nearly two and half centuries. During this period, it had contacts with other states in different ways. One of the states which the Granada Sultanate was most often in contact with was the Marinides State in the Maghreb, south of the Strait of Gibraltar. This state, which was one of the successors of the Almohads, saw itself as heir to them in terms of the Andalusian jihad. In the ongoing struggle against the Christian forces in Andalusia, the Marinids and Bani Ahmar were generally in cooperation. These two states, which were the successors of the Almohads, also had common features in terms of religion, language, culture and lineage. The relations that started primarily on military grounds for defense purposes were not limited to this, but continued to be maintained with interactions in different fields. In the present study, various relations and interactions between Bani Ahmar and Marinides state will be dealth with.
