Summary/Abstract: Purpose of the article is to analyze “swing” as one of the base action in the European ballroom dances (competition program) from the position of theory and method of teaching sports ballroom dance (dance sport). Methodology of the investigation is based, firstly, on the using method of complex analyze of choreographic texts of modern investigators and teachers who have been developing and systematizing the material in sport ballroom dances, secondly, on the general – theoretically logical methods and knowledge’s receptions contributing to the identification of structural relationships and semantic correlations by highlighting the constructive role of “swing” in any European ballroom dances. The scientific novelty lies in formulating and conceptualization of «swing» critical aspects as the base activity in the European ballroom dances, with the aim of adaptation this material to the study process in ballroom choreography. Conclusions. In spite of the number of discussion questions as for the swing transition from a musical plane into choreographical with the more significant percent of probability, today they have to state the strong influence of this dancing direction on the theory and performance technique of Latin – American and European ballroom dances. One of the demonstrations of this influence is an integration swing as the dance motion into the European ballroom dances program which today can’t imagine without, as an exception tango, this base motion. Swing type of body motion in the European ballroom dances in necessary to consider including the following aspects: firstly, body motion must be free, natural and uninterrupted, secondly, it can be of three types - pendulum, metronome and rotational, thirdly, the body motions in three planes (frontal (coronary), sagittal and horizontal (transverse)), and fourthly, the motion of drive, rotation for easily and rotation for dynamics, rolling by foot, technical and cosmetic sway and expansion as an integral parts. Thanks to swing specific motions of ballroom dance and their rhythmic interpretations are possible.
