Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with theoretical basis of terms music fandom and subculture. These twoconcepts are sometimes considered to be one and the same, especially because of the close connection of the subculture to certain popular music genres. I draw from the cultural studies perspective on subcultures from the authors such as Stuart Hall, Angela McRobbie orDick Hebdige, and discuss the similarities and differences between concepts of subcultureand music fandom. The goal of this paper is to revise such paradigm and to challenge the inaccuracy of substituting these terms by one another.
