Feast - The Mystery of Transposition (Feastdays and Weekdays in the Monastic Tradition)

Summary/Abstract: Celebration in the Christian tradition is not an ecstatic fulfillment but an eschatological symbol. The community of those witnessing the resurrection of Christ lives in the tension of the "already but not yet". Every tension comes from adichotomy - and they defuse in a transposition. Feast is the mystery of transposition. Transposition is e.g. the conversion: the recognition that it is not we who chose God, but God has chosen us. It is the worship of God that brings the festival into the everyday life of the monastic community. Prayer, indeed, creates a balanced harmony between the rather different experiences of feasts and the everydays.
