Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyze the potential of the rivers and its use in the context of urban policy in Bydgoszcz. In this research was analyzed the influence of rivers to a development of Bydgoszcz city and capabilities of use the transportic and the social-economic potential of rivers. Bydgoszcz city is located near the Wisła and Brda rivers and also at the watercourses: Kanał Bydgoski and Flis Północny . the length of all is about 100 kilometers. Rivers with their watersides are actually areas with a revitalizations programs, which have to improvement their functionality in an urban area. Rivers become an object of interest of inhabitants, tourists and investors. Renovation of waterfronts is an important element of urban policy, compatible with the idea of the balanced development of cities, revitalization or even activities compatible with an idea of smart city.
