Summary/Abstract: Today, in addition to basic services such as book lending and preservation, school libraries offer creative workshops and school classes. In today’s world of modern technology, librarians have a difficult task to preserve the tradition, but also to accept innovations which will draw students closer to books. Librarians must be innovative and present books in a creative and interesting way. They should, therefore, keep pace with the time, constantly explore and accept changes. Their task is to be skilful mediators in the interaction between students and books, but also to enhance their reading habits. School libraries are promoting reading through variety of creative workshops. The subject of this paper is the impact and importance of school libraries in development of reading habits among school children from the fifth to eighth grade. The study included two school libraries in primary schools “Đorđe Krstić” and “Drinka Pavlović” in which a research was conducted on reading habits among school children.
