Summary/Abstract: Purpose of Article. The purpose of this article is to identify the features of palimpsest as a postmodern artistic principle in the ballet treatment of classical primary sources. The methodology of the research is based on the combination of historical and art studies (analysis of stylistic and lexical peculiarities of ballet performances in chronological sequence), comparative (comparing the interpretations of various choreographers), philosophical and cultural studies (research of ballet works in the context of postmodern philosophical and cultural studies thought), which allowed to conduct a scientific research. Scientific Novelty. The model of palimpsest is applied to the analysis of postmodern ballet performance. Palimpsest helps to investigate the transformation of the original ballet in the process of interpretation that is compared with the original and postmodern ballet interpretations among themselves, to identify the specifics of the implementation of postmodern philosophical ideas in tenns of the contemporary ballet theater. Conclusions. The enrichment of artistic abilities of the ballet theater through the combination of traditions and innovation, the edges of previous editions and interpretations with the implementation of his own author's vision of the interpreter in the post-ballet theater were revealed by analyzing the history of the editorial and interpretations of the Swan Lake Ballet through the prism of palimpsest thinking.
