Summary/Abstract: Purpose of Article. Identify and generalize artistic-figurative connotations of "Perpetuum mobile" in the symphonic and chamber-instrumental music of the twentieth century. Methodology. The methodology of the study includes a comparative method, with the help of which the variegated musical works are analyzed. The connotations of P.M. are reviewed on the basis of cultural and historical comparative analysis. Scientific novelty of the research lies in the study of connotational varieties of P.M. with a generalization of characteristic features in the variegated music of the twentieth century (until the 60's). The certain problematics of P.M. is considered in the works of composers B. Bartok, Prokofiev, M. Ravel, Shostakovich, A. Schnittke for the first time. Conclusions. Based on the study of P.M. connotations in the symphonic and chamber-instrumental music of the twentieth century the cohesion (interrelation) of displays of this symbol in various composer schools is found. Cohesion is expressed in the use of joint texture and form-building means, metro-rhythmic as well as melodic formulas that create a continuous musical movement. Artisticfigurative connotations "Perpetuum mobile" in the symphonic and chamber-instrumental music of the twentieth century (until the 60s) are researched through the ostinatism, mechanisticity, repetition of rhythmic, and textural formulas, monotematism, which reflect the new sociocultural realities of the mythologeme "Man-Machine".
