Summary/Abstract: The subject of collective mass dwelling is currently facing a turning point, from a social point of view, especially in what concerns big cities in Romania. During the communist regime we encountered a massive movement from villages to towns, when people have populated cities not only with their own presence, but also with their habits, cultural baggage and conception of habitation, which were more or less compatible with living in wider communities, such as those in the blocks of flats. On the other hand, after this period of about half a century, in which the city behaved as a force of attraction for a large part of the rural population, this type of dwelling begins to no longer be desired by the new generations, who have their origins here and who until the middle age have experienced exclusively this type of life. They are becoming more and more attracted to the lack of concrete barriers, and a life free from urban pressure, with everything that implies this, from habitation to work. Thus, the communist era, dominated by the regime of Ceausescu, succeeded in dismantling whole villages and resettling its inhabitants to cities, creating in this way not just another habitation system, somewhere on the border between rural and urban, but also a new social category. Subsequently, the regime change also led to shifts in people's wishes in terms of habitation, so that we can notice how gradually the city no longer represents the supreme aspiration and we are witnessing an unexpected migration (back) to the village. We can then raise the issue of proposing a new type of dwelling, between rural and urban.
