Summary/Abstract: The article examines a topic of current interest - the sociocultural phenomenon of gratitude. The communicative patterns of speech behavior in expressing gratitude are based on different communication situations studied from the perspective of: 1) expressing gratitude in Russian and Bulgarian communicative behavior; 2) the degree of standardization in the usage of phatic emotives expressing gratitude; 3) the degree of communicative emotionality of Russian and Bulgarian languages.
