Summary/Abstract: In its various forms, the Bible has been a vast repository of vocabulary, speech, and narration to which literature owes much, both in the production intended for edification and in the various forms of literature in which the sacred and the profane are in a –sometimes difficult to disentangle – combination. In the present article, we propose a brief analysis of the Bible’s influence on the Arthurian prose romance, particularly on the Boat of Solomon episode. This emblematic Arthurian motif is first announced in the Estoire del Saint Graal, the inaugural book of the “Lancelot-Graal” cycle, written in France, in the early 13thcentury, and the adventure it narrates is only finished in the Queste del Saint Graal (Vulgate variant) or Demanda do Santo Graal, the two different versions rounding up the cycle. By this comparative approach, we attempt to explain what the Biblical reference simply when used in these texts as well as what the author intentions might be when using the Sacred Book as a source.
