Summary/Abstract: In different degrees and for different reasons, Charles Baudelaire was the “enemy brother” of both Eugène Delacroix and Félix Nadar (who had no significant interaction together). This study focuses on Baudelaire’s personal and intellectual relationship with each of the two artists, as reflected, on one hand, in the poet’s correspondence and critical writings and, on the other hand, in Delacroix’s diary and in Nadar’s Charles Baudelaire, intime. Oscillating between admiration and irritation, going from estrangement to reconciliation and back again, the three artists confront and complement one another as individuals with distinct character traits, artistic temperaments and aesthetical ideas. The interplays between self-representation and the representation of the other on the two mentioned interactional axes compose a spectacular multi-faceted representation of the same world where the three personalities lived at the same time.
