Summary/Abstract: The facilities which hadith methodology offers regarding the understanding of the hadits have been currently debated. In this respect, hadith methodologists have been criticized for dealing with the methodology of the transmission (riwayah) only and failing to develop an adequate methodology to understand and comment the hadith itself (matn) referring to what has been done in their methodology works. When looked at Hâkim al Nisaburi’s Marifah, one of the first hadith methodology sources available today, the issue of fiqh al hadith (the comprehension of hadith), which is dealt with in its twentieth section separately, would deserve consideration with regard to the abovementioned criticisms. In that section, Hâkim examined twenty three are jurist (fakih) muhaddiths through instances to manifest that they are adept at fiqh al hadith. The mentioned section, which has a distinct character since seen only in Marifa among other early methodology works will be translated into Turkish. Following translation, an evaluation of the section through instances may contribute to the disclosure of the methodologist muhaddiths’ points of view to the matter.
