The functional structure of town square in Szadek

Summary/Abstract: The market square as an open space in historic city was crucial throughout the ages for the socio-economic development of towns. After political transformation in Poland in 1989 town squares lost their market function. Currently can be observed investments in enhancement of the representational function and green spaces. At the same time, lo-cal governments in some cities favour cars and road transport even in little squares (at the expense of quiet rest). The aim of the article is to characterize the space of the town square in Szadek, including a morphological analysis and functional approach.
