Summary/Abstract: Stress as an individual phenomenon is a specific kind ofemotional experience usually associated with negativeemotions and analysed in their context. However, undercertain circumstances stress may also trigger positive emotions;analysing a stressful situation and reflecting uponit may lead one to perceive benefits of stressful experienceand undertake positive reappraisal of encountereddifficulties. The author’s own empirical research revealsthat a considerable percentage of children finishing theirearly-stage school education believe that it is possible tofind something advantageous, good and positive in stressfulsituations full of negative emotions. Examples of suchpositive aspects of stress given by those children indicatethat for some of them the developmental process that involvescoping with difficult situations has already started. The children begin to act independently (analyse the difficultsituation, talk about it, ask questions, check the effectivenessof strategies) in order to overcome difficultiesand find their meaning in human existence.
