Summary/Abstract: This study, which is an excerpt of a master’s thesis successfully defended at the History Department of the Faculty of Education of the J. Selye Univeristy, shows the potentials in museum pedagogy and the possibility of its use in history education. The study describes the roots and the methodology of museum pedagogy within the scientific context of modern history didactics. It emphasizes the type of education which is based on competence in order to clarify the skills which can be improved during a history class as well as during museum pedagogy activities. The study focuses on finding some common points between these two fields while it also introduces the methods of museum pedagogy. It also contains the analyses of field-visits to three institutions in Budapest running museum pedagogy activities, as well as observations of different activities and recorded interviews with teachers using museum pedagogical methods.
