Summary/Abstract: The institution of slavery, which was as old as history of mankind, had been transferred to Ottoman Empire with Islam. The main idea behind this institution, which had been carried on in Ottoman Empire, is having cheap labor and using prisoners of wars in social and economic life. This study was condusted based on the court records of the period to shed light on the history of slavery insitution, which was one of the socio-economic dynamic of Crimean Peninsula where a live slave trade is carried out. It aims to focus on the social dimensions of slavery in terms of ethnicity and gender, and the liberation of slaves in Crimea. In addition, evaluations will be made on the status of the slaves, the subjects of court records.
