Trust vs. social and professional functioning (1). The concept of trust, the level of trust of Poles, the importance of trust to social life

Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to identify key elements of the concept of trust, such as accepting vulnerability for loss, generalized norm of reciprocity, positive conviction towards the trustee's intentions and credibility of the trustee. The results of analyzes of publicly available data were also presented, which indicate that Poles have a very low level of trust in other people and public institutions. The article also draws attention to the importance of trust for contemporary societies, which according to the analyzes of existing data are strongly related to many key indicators of quality of life, such as a sense of happiness or satisfaction with public life.
