Summary/Abstract: Introduced in December 1981 martial law is one of the most important events in the history of the newest Poland. This event initiated the return to monism in the Polish trade union movement. According to the decree on martial law issued by the Council of State, all trade unions were suspended. The purpose of this article is to present the impact of this tragic event in the history of Poland on the legal status of trade unions at that time and to show a rapid regress in the construction of a limited trade union pluralism that followed the events of The Coast in August 1980.
