Belgrade MSM scene’s urban myths

Summary/Abstract: The attempt of this paper is to show the ways in which a particular hidden population, namely, MSM – male gay population – builds and defines its subcultural norms vis-à-vis the wider society, as well as in relation to its „scene” as a special-temporal form peculiar to this population. The different narratives circulating around the MSM scene have the function of defining the scene and its norms in order to attain the basic and pragmatic purpose of the scene – meeting the sexual partners. The scene’s different narratives thereby build and further affirm the relations between society, MSM population and the individual.
