Summary/Abstract: In this study I follow copious discussion about semantics of case category in Czech. I analyse chosen nouns in the position of nominative predicative or instrumental predicative with the help of the newest synchronic written corpus of Czech language – SYN v7. I try to verify opinions on this problematic presented in literature with the emphasis on the fact that only one study was realized on corpus material base so far (Štícha 2004). I dedicate special attention to masculine animate nouns pán, muž, chlap, otec and syn. I take into consideration various semantic features of these nouns like “male person”, “husband” or “monarch” within my analysis.
