Summary/Abstract: The paper describes the influence of the Russian administrative reforms on the administrative structure of the Kingdom of Poland in the 19th century. Special attention has been paid to the development of administration in the Polish lands over the period of the 18th – 19th centuries. In particular, the emphasis has been laid on the differences in the administrative structure of the Kingdom of Poland that were linked to the Polish traditions and French concepts adopted during the period of the Duchy of Warsaw. Particularly, the Council of State, administrative judicial system, and sole administrative bodies have been discussed. The unification of administration according to the Russian pattern occurred as long as the 1870s. However, it was preceded by a step-by-step introduction of the Russian administrative rules, which was a result of Russia’s policy towards the Kingdom of Poland, especially after the Polish-Russian war (1830–1831). The period of Aleksander Wielopolski’s reforms held before the beginning of the January uprising was an exception. However, not all Russian administrative reforms, such as, for example, the self-government reform, held during the time of Alexander II were implemented in the territory of the Kingdom of Poland. The primary cause is the policy pursued by Russia and the geographical position of the Kingdom of Poland.
