Summary/Abstract: The article covers the issue of the legal translator’s competence in detail providing a novel approach to the problem of competencies identification and understanding of their importance in the legal translator’s professional portfolio. The author also considers the legal translator’s specific abilities – ability to research, to self-study and creative ability and substantiates their particular significance in the contemporary working conditions and the legal translator’s training.
