Summary/Abstract: The aim of the presented study is to analyze the reltionship between subjective age and personality traits during the developmental transition to early adulthood. The study involves young people who completed questionnaires about their subjective age (Kastenbaum et al., 1972) and personality traits (Mini-IPIP Scales). Data analysis reveals a statistically significant correlation between the subjective selfperception as “older than my years” and the trait of consciousness. The result is indicative of the process of psychosocial growth in emerging adulthood (18-25 years) and the way in which the age self-definition, as a dimension of identity, interacts with the personal potential for responsible and autonomy behaviour. The study contributes to enriching up-to-date research of the differential specificity of this development period in Bulgarian sociocultural context and identifying markers for adaptive dealing with age-related challenges.
