Summary/Abstract: Not only the history of the Muslim resistance in Bulgaria against the forced assimilation is not written yet: 30 years after the events even the story hasn’t been told. It is contended that the main reason is that it would have to be based on several psycho-politically uncomfortable narratives. An explanation why they are uncomfortable for both Muslims and non-Muslims is offered, together with a typology of possible narratives. The lack of real narratives is predominantly due to a simple denial of guilt, albeit of different kinds. The perpetrators would deny they were part to a massive state crime; the silent majority would deny its guilt in endorsing that crime; and those who resisted would deny the guilt of their ineffectiveness and lack of cross-confession cooperation.
