Summary/Abstract: Sadism refers to the dispositional tendency to engage in cruel and demeaning behavior for pleasure, and usually is assessed in its extreme forms, in criminal or sexual context. Most people experience distress when harming an innocent other, but cruelty can evoke different emotions in other – excitement and pleasure, and indicate for subclinical/everyday sadism. In an earlier research a model of socially aversive personal traits – Dark Triad (Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy) as determinants of sadistic tendencies in adolescence is tested. In present study analysis continues, with assessment of effects of other personality traits: spitefulness, fearlessness, and Honesty-Humility dimension from, with four components – sincerity, honesty, greed avoidance, and humility. Sadism is evaluated with Bulgarian versions of Comprehensive Assessment of Sadistic Tendencies (CAST) and Assessment of Sadistic Personality (ASP). Regression analyses identify spitefulness as a main precursor of everyday sadism; fearlessness shows weaker significant effects, and Honesty-humility – negative effects, close to non-significant value. Current model shows better explanatory potential as model in past study, and confirms a possibility of indirect assessment of everyday sadism with identified personality determinants.
