Summary/Abstract: The urban park is the city area reserved for promenades, recreation, romantic dates. Unanimously considered asa part of nature, people often forget that this is a manmadeplanted area, where alleys and water surfaces aredesigned, the perspectives are controlled through massivesoftscaping, shrubs or flowering pockets, so that thepark can express a variety of feelings. The urban park isenriched with gazebos, monuments, statues or embracesthe already there or man-made ruins, spaces with acultural destination, exhibitions. It can have a developmentbased on a geometrical structure or free compositions. When associated to an emblematic building or integratingit, the park becomes representative too. As an organizedpublic space, of a large weight in the economyof the urban territory, the park will reach a status of agenuine urban landmark. A park can divide districts ina city, similarly to a border but it as well connects theneigboring areas as a passing zone, thus playing an importantrole in building communities.Occasionally, the parks may be associated to large localor national events, at the time of their opening tothe public or dedicated, hence adopting their symbolicmeaning (see Ferdinand Park or Carol Park).
