Summary/Abstract: The activity of Imre Dániel, librarian of the Transylvanian bishop Ignác Batthyány (1780-1798), also assumed transcribing documents on different themes of interest that the prelate might use subsequently in his scientific works. He collected information not only from Italy where he had spent two years (December 1783 - December 1785) but also previously from the Austrian area. The financial support offered by the prelate to Dániel, allowed him to travel through central and southern Europe and to come into contact with different scholars of the time that he mentioned in the travel diary that he kept (Diarium itineris Italici); it mirrored perfectly the Italian society from the end of the XVIIIth century. By this research, we only tackled information gathered by Imre Dániel on Enea Silvio Piccolomini (1405-1464) who became Pope Pius II (1458-1464) on the chair of St. Peter.Information gathered by Dániel on Piccolomini reveals him both before and after the pontificate. Works that he wrote as laic are recalled, but especially speeches held by Pius II by which he attempted to organise the crusade against the Ottoman Turks that were heading towards central Europe. All information belongs to the archival holdings kept in the Batthyaneum Library.
