Summary/Abstract: The study deals with Jungmann’s 1805 translation of Chateaubriand’s Atala. It focuses on romantic elements in the translation. Although these elements did not provoke any immediate response in the Czech context, they still functioned as a complex potentiality. 1805 may thus be considered as a turning point in Czech literary romanticism.
