Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on changes of depiction of the rentcharge motif (reservatum rusticum) in a number of literary works of Czech literature from the second half of the nineteenth century, stressing the backround of Czech literary realism, which was slowly forming in that time. The scrutinized literary works include František Pravda’s Hospodáři a výměnkáři v Suchoparech, Leopold Hansmann’s Na pazderně, Vítězslav Hálek’s Na vejminku, Karel Václav Rais’s Konec života, and Josef Karel Šlejhar’s Páně vzkříšení and Zločin.
