Summary/Abstract: Contemporary post-tonal music and its conflict with the ear have been thoroughly researched and training systems have been developed. Furthermore, composers themselves look for their theories on the essence of the musical êear’ to justify their musical experiments – a fact that is true only in this sphere. It is likely to remain disputable for a long time and listeners’ and professional musicians’ experience is going to develop in various directions. The paper outlines a range of comparatively established theoretical interpretations, as well as some suggestions on ear training. The paper interprets post-tonal ear training systems and reviews the interpretations of the dictation. Having summarized key guidelines in 20th century-music solfège, it primarily presents the notions of fragmented dictation, error dictation and dictation on parameters. The paper analyzes the opportunities for providing a maximum effectiveness in post-tonal music solfège training, which is a requirement and necessity in modern performing practice, as well as a considerable subject in the field of solfège.
