Summary/Abstract: This study is mainly concerned with investigating the structure and language features of online tabloid gossips. Thetheoretical background of the study is based on the approach that gossips mediate norms, expectations, opinions and values aswell. In gossip you can talk about people who the gossipers do not know personally: in press (especially in tabloid press) articlesare published about private aff airs of public actors, stars, celebrities, and the readers will later talk about these topics. In thisstudy 37 tabloid articles and 17 Facebook posts (the title, lead, body text of articles and posts) were investigated. The analysisfocuses on the typically linguistic elements, features and structures of online tabloid articles, which provide information, facts(or false, deceptive information), and, through them, norms, social expectations and opinions.
