Summary/Abstract: The article is the first analysis in historiography of the issue of workers’ “exchanges” (birzhas) during the revolution of 1905 in western parts of the Russian Empire. On the basis of memories, archival materials and studies, the author analyses the political practice of revolutionaries in the form of mass urban meetings and the “occupation” of public space. In addition, attention is paid to the location and political colouring of the “exchanges”, whose character and operating principles are examined through the prism of research into modern social movements and the concept of “the right to the city”.
