Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the concepts of Bernard Berenson in the context of Renaissance studies. The main emphasis is given to the changing attitude towards Renaissance culture and its place in the development of art. It attempts to convey the singularity of Berenson’s view of Renaissance painting by comparing interpretations of Botticelli’s works presented by different critics of the same time, including Aby Warburg, W. Pater and H. Wolfflin.
