Summary/Abstract: Greetings a comparative approach on Italian and Romanian this article reviews different forms of greetings, as a minimun conversationalact of courtesy, indispensable in verbal interaction between two or more interlocutors, a social act which respects and maintains solidar, positive relationships between the members of a linguistic community. Greetings obey certain conventions which must be known by society in order for the conveyed message to be decoded correctly. On taking into consideration the fact that customs vary from one society to another, from one country to another, from one age to another, we are aiming at referring to the way one greets in two Romance languages, Italian and Romanian. We will try to present new, modern salutation examples, the tendency to simplify the informal greeting by accompanying it by gestures, especially on social media, between young people and in mass media, the TV, the radio.
