Summary/Abstract: The traditional conception of meaning from which the principle of compositionality flows cannot account for the plurality of meanings that relate to a single lexicon. It is the same for the homonymic and monosemic approach. By adopting the polysemic approach, cognitive linguistics tends to answer this question by showing that lexical input is not the receptacle of all meanings. It is only a stepping stone to meaning. The word, when used in context, triggers a semantic network in which the choice of a particular meaning is made. Given the communicative function of language, this choice is often motivated. We show through this study the various configurations that update the preposition dans and its contextualization.
