Summary/Abstract: The page is not only a scriptural support, but could also be perceived as a space, a territory, a land. In the book Species of Spaces and Other Pieces (1974), french author Georges Perec (1936-1982) presents a series of ideas about the conventional spaces we are related to: the page, the bed, the apartment, the street, the neighborhood, the city, the country, etc... In this text, I will analyze how Georges Perec explores the page as a surface: a place that can be experienced like a territory. Opposed to the conventional essay writing order, Perec creates a textual derive, a rhizomatic writing and a multidirectional reading. Since « the space starts with words », as Georges Perec states, I will commence analyzing how the space between words appeared in west writing during modernity and how Georges Perec uses the space in the page to create a cartography where the conventional order is subverted, as a way of responding to the postwar context.
