Summary/Abstract: This article is an attempt of highlighting the functions of self-repetition and hetero-repetition in spoken Romanian( as they are created by the speaker through a resumption of an element from the previous message of another speaker). Regardless of the fact that repetition may act as a strategy to maintain, take a speaking turn or postpone the answer, regardless of its role of challenging the interlocuter or simply colouring the discourse to avoid monotony and hold the attention of the audience, repetition, manifested under its two forms, self-repetition and hetero-repetition, has the function of contributing to the textual-discursive cohesion and coherence.
