Summary/Abstract: In his book Revolutionstagebuch 1919, Victor Klemperer presents events taking place during the time of the Bavarian Soviet Republic as a tragicomedy – a mixture of ridiculousness, bitterness and crime, while fiercely criticising the mentality of the conservative bourgeoisie of Munich. In his vivid descriptions of successive events as they unfold in the besieged city, the author depicts the defeat of the 1918-1919 Revolution – one of the most decisive moments in German history.
