Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses the problem of nonce formations and offers a conceptual blending approach while analyzing the mechanisms of their occurrence in language. The phenomenon of nonceness is growing in popularity, especially in political discourse, where such occasionalisms are created ‘on the spur of the moment to cover some immediate need’ (Bauer 1983: 45). In the proposed paper we offer a conceptual blending analysis of ziobrzydzanie, the nonce formation which appeared in the Polish political discourse in 2007. To fully account for the importance of context as well as the role of speaker and hearer while using such an occasionalism, a six-space model of conceptual integration as proposed by Brandt, Brandt (2005) will be applied in the analysis.
