Summary/Abstract: The author analyzes the connections between Simion Bărnuţiu’s general concept of man, society and the world, along with the influence it exerted on the substantiation of his philosophy of law and the principles of historical natural law within the Romanian culture. The main aim of the study is to emphasize that S. Bărnuţiu’s philosophy, as well as his complete work, is centred on the issue of man, considered from a rationalist perspective point of view and including the values of the European culture in the mid-nineteenth century. The Transylvanian philosopher had a multivalent contribution to guiding and developing Romanian culture according to the European cultural patterns, being inspired by the classical culture, the universal history of philosophy and the contemporary European philosophical culture.
