Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the situation of the Polish language in Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine, with variants of the Polish language in the Eastern Borderlands (regional language and dialects) as well as with its constitutive features. Polish in the Eastern Borderlands as a construct in some way is revived; not as a socio-cultural phenomenon, however, because its functions have been limited or diminished, and its continuity has been breached. The article also discusses the notion of “vitality” of the language and code mixing, including various aspects of the latter. Other issues tackled by the Author include: the problem of continuity/lack of continuity in language transferring, the problem of new – learned Polish in the East, and finally problems of the Polish language in the Eastern Borderlands in the epoch of dialects decay.
