Summary/Abstract: The Global Knowledge Foundation, which publishes The Analyst, ventured into a new sphere of activity by organizing its first conference on September 29 in Budapest. The “Europe 2007” conference examined themes related to EU expansion. Speakers included leading politicians and economists from recently joined EU member states and candidates for accession. Lajos Bokros, chairman of the foundation, praised some of the speakers while introducing the conference. He said that former Bulgarian deputy prime minister Alexander Boshkov played a historic role in Bulgaria’s return from the verge of bankruptcy a decade ago, and that Slovakia’s former finance minister Ivan Miklos implemented reforms that “catapulted Slovakia into the EU”.[…]
